Eucalyptus Essential Oil: Uses and Benefits

Eucalyptus Essential Oil: Uses & Benefits

While many essential oils provide similar benefits, Eucalyptus essentials oil offers more unique benefits. You can use Eucalyptus oil to do everything from healing wounds faster to solving respiratory problems such as bronchitis and asthma. Of course, like many other essential oils, Eucalyptus can also be used as a hair care product or as a household aroma. If all of this sounds great, read on to find out everything you need to know about Eucalyptus essential oils.

The majority of Eucalyptus oils come from Australia, where it is extracted from evergreen Eucalyptus trees that grow there. However, Eucalyptus is also sparsely found in other parts of the world such as Asia and Africa.

Going back to Australia, it's widely believed that the Aborigines here are the first ones to have discovered and used Eucalyptus essential oils. The Aborigines used these oils to cure everything from breathing problems to muscle pains. Interestingly enough, Eucalyptus oils are still used for many of the same things today!

One more thing worth mentioning about Eucalyptus essential oils is that they are a top note, meaning they work fast so you get the benefits right away; however, top notes also fade away quicker than middle and bases notes, so you won't have long to soak up the benefits of Eucalyptus.

As far as the color of Eucalyptus essential oils go, this product ranges from colorless to pale yellow. Eucalyptus oils are also very thin, and they give off a fresh, earthy aroma when used. So make sure to keep all of this in mind when looking for quality Eucalyptus oil.

Treating Respiratory Problems
If you have a respiratory problem such as asthma, bronchitis or congestion, Eucalyptus oil is a great product to use. Gargling a little Eucalyptus oil with warm water has been shown to treat all of the aforementioned problems because Eucalyptus is a very good decongestant and anti-inflammatory.

Muscle Pain Relief
Eucalyptus oils are a popular treatment for sore muscles because you can simply massage them into the afflicted area and get instant results. Everything from minor problems such as stiff or sore muscles to serious problems like sprained ligaments and nerve pain can be relieved through a Eucalyptus oil massage.

Mouth Wash
Because of its strong germicidal properties, you can use it as a mouthwash. Just by gargling Eucalyptus daily, you can prevent cavities, and keep your mouth fresh and clean!

Wounds and Abscesses
Eucalyptus is one of the best essential oils for treating wounds and abscesses. Just putting a few drops of oil on a dressing can work wonders when healing a wound due to the strong antiseptic properties of this essential oil. You can also use Eucalyptus essential oils on bug bites and bee stings.

Dandruff Treatment
Those having a bout with dandruff should try ridding the problem with Eucalyptus oils. All you need to do is put several drops of oil into your shampoo and massage it into your hair.

Air Freshener
Due to its fast-acting nature and pleasant aroma, Eucalyptus essential oils make a perfect air freshener. Not only will you get the soft, earthy smell of Eucalyptus through your house, but this product also kills germs and bacteria.

Before we get into any of the uses for Eucalyptus essential oils, bear in mind that you need to be careful with the quantity you use. This is especially true when using Eucalyptus as a massage oil because too much can irritate the skin. With this being the case, only mix several drops of Eucalyptus essential oil in with massage oils before using.

The same rules apply when using Eucalyptus oils to treat wounds and bee stings; you shouldn't use any more than a few drops on the dressing you put on the wound. Overusing Eucalyptus oil could cause the wound to get worse, and even make the afflicted person nauseous or sick.

When gargling Eucalyptus essential oil, it's highly recommended that you avoid swallowing the oil afterward. Instead, simply mix a few drops of Eucalyptus oil into warm water, gargle the solution, then spit it out into the sink. As a good rule of thumb, you should never swallow Eucalyptus or any other essential oil unless a licensed/reputable doctor instructs you to do so (which probably won't happen).

It is okay to inhale Eucalyptus oils when treating respiratory problems, but again, the key is to do this in moderation. A couple of small drops on a cloth should do the trick without making you feel bad afterward.

You can also combine Eucalyptus oil with other essential oils such as rosemary, cedar wood and lavender essential oil.

Eucalyptus oil is one of the more popular essential oils, so you shouldn't have a whole lot of trouble finding it. Most chain stores sell 5 oz., 12 oz. and 16 oz. bottles of this product, while you can also find it online. In many cases, it's best to shop online because you can often find better deals on Eucalyptus over the internet.

Of course, you need to make sure that you're buying Eucalyptus essential oils from a trusted source because there are some companies that sell low quality products. Some of the lesser products don't have an odor and/or will be darker in appearance (remember, quality Eucalyptus oil is clear or pale yellow).

Now this isn't to scare you off from buying Eucalyptus essential oils online because you can get all of its amazing benefits at a fraction of the cost over the internet. Instead, you just need to be careful when buying this product so that you don't get ripped off. Assuming you get good quality product, you will be able to enjoy its ability to soothe aching muscles, heal wounds, alleviate respiratory problems and make your house smell better!
